A wildfire broke out in the Lone Star State on Monday and has quickly torched 50,000+ acres in 24 hours. Hot weather has dried out fuels in the area, making explosive fire growth possible.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/ross fire -1787695913903.png">Crews in the area are prioritizing lives and structures as of Tuesday morning, urging folks in Jack and Palo Pinto Counties to get out of the way of this blaze. Temperatures soaring to nearly 110 both Sunday and Monday have not helped matters recently.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-25 091056-1787670733148.jpg">Fire weather will be at the forefront going forward, until cooler weather or wet weather can make a return. However, the strong area of high pressure baking many in the south doesn't look to budge in the foreseeable future.Temperatures will remain above average, and the feels-like temperature will dig into the 100s for cities like Houston this week.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/houstotn texasss -1787681512097.png">

Taban Sharifi grew up in Southern California between Los Angeles and San Diego. She is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) with the American Meteorological Society (AMS). She has a B.S. in Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Environmental Systems and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Go Bruins! While in school, Taban was a meteorology intern with NBC LA. There she helped forecast daily weather for the greater Los Angeles region and created a playbook to deploy weather sensors for NBC owned-and-operated stations across the country. Her first on-air job took her to San Angelo, Texas, where she was a morning meteorologist and co-anchor. Working in West Texas gave her knowledge and experience covering severe storms. From there, she moved to Palm Springs, California. People think forecasting in California is sunshine all the time, but with temperatures in the 120’s, wildfires, damaging winds, floodings, and earthquakes, the forecasting kept her very busy! She also worked there as a general assignment reporter and told community stories. Taban is excited for the challenge and opportunity to forecast nationally with WeatherNation. She also looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer!

<h1>ISELLE</h1>Tropical Storm Julio formed Tuesday morning in the Eastern Pacific and has now dissipated. Tropical Storm Iselle is still churning and has sustained winds of 60 MPH and is moving WNW at 9 MPH. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/TROPICAL STROEM ISSLEE -1787694571274.png">Waves from these systems could make it far enough north to impact the coast of southern California. Interests there should watch for a high rip current risk through the end of the week.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/icnreasing surffff-1787694792706.png">With multiple other areas of development, we expect additional storms to come off the factory line and move west and northwest into the Pacific. El Niño is traditionally very active for the Pacific basin, and this year has proved it. Lala continues as a Tropical Storm northwest of the Hawaiian Islands. Moke is post-tropical and fizzling out.<h1>RECAPPING LALA</h1>While Lala did not make a direct landfall on the Hawaiian Islands, it still brought significant impacts. The Hawaii Department of Transportation reported that parts of Highway 11 on the Big Island were shut down due to flooding. More than 130,000 customers lost power Saturday at the height of the storm. Multiple Waves in the Pacific

El Niño has been smothering tropical waves in the Atlantic this summer, with three named storms to date but only 16% of average cyclone energy! This doesn't mean the rest of the season will be just as quiet, however, as 66% of all hurricane activity in the Atlantic occurs between August 20th and October 10th.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-23 032445-1787477089898.png">Right on cue, we are seeing 2 areas of potential development in the Atlantic Basin. A tropical wave, Invest 96L, has moved off of Africa and is now in the far eastern Atlantic. In the days ahead, it may have a better chance to get its act together this week as it moves across the MDR (main development region) in the Atlantic, between Africa and the Caribbean. There is a high chance for development right now.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-25 075631-1787666207391.png">The two primary global forecast models are showing development late-week, Both develop the system into a low, but the strength of the system varies quite a bit as the GFS deepens the low more quickly. The system is still only about halfway through the tropical Atlantic by Thursday afternoon, which means any impacts to the U.S. would be another 6-10 days out, at least.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-25 040948-1787652601439.png">Maritime Canada should be aware of the other potential area of development. As it moves north, we could see some brief organization from this system. Gusty and rainy conditions are expected from now through the area of low pressure passing on Wednesday.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-25 075713-1787666243504.png">Stay tuned...this is the time of the year when the Atlantic Waters can get a little rowdy. Atlantic Tropics: Two Areas of Investigation

Originally born in Spokane, Washington,  Jackie's Dad was in the Air Force which led her to a life of travel. She has lived in Wichita, Okinawa, Japan, Baltimore, New Jersey, Indiana and South Carolina.  After graduating from Kadena High School, in Okinawa Japan, she got a full basketball scholarship to Coppin State College. On the court she was a 4-year starter and reached over 1000 points in her basketball career. She was also named Athlete of the Year for the whole university in 2002. Off the court, she earned a degree in Broadcast Production/English.

After college, she landed a job as a radio personality. Jackie went on to have a successful career for 12 years working at KXLY broadcast center. While on the radio, she decided to change career. Jackie went back to school, graduating from the Mississippi State Meteorology Broadcast Program. From snow, to tornadoes, to hurricanes, she has had experience forecasting all these events.

Strong storms rolled through the High Plains Monday. Some of these storms had really strong updrafts, dropping hailstones over 3" in diameter! The threat continues over the next few days.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-25 033648-1787650666585.png">Severe chances continue into the evening and overnight hours with damaging winds and large hail as the main concern. There is a significant wind threat across the western Plains and Front Range; in blue is where we could see 75+ mph winds. Significant Winds and Hail Possible for the Plains

Alana Cameron was born and raised in Canada in the city of Mississauga, just outside of Toronto. Alana is the oldest of 4 siblings, all close in age, and grew up playing outside with them in all types of weather. After graduating high school, Alana moved to study at the University of British Columbia in Kelowna for a year before transferring to Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Atmospheric Science. Upon completion, Alana moved back to Toronto where she completed a post-grad degree in Meteorology at York University. After her post-grad, she went on to complete another post-grad in Broadcast Journalism - TV News at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. During her final year of studies she had the privilege of interning with the best in the business in Canada at The Weather Network. Once she finished her internship, she got the call from small-town Denison, Texas where she accepted a job as an on-air meteorologist at KTEN-TV, right in tornado alley, covering severe weather from Sherman/Denison (North Texas) to Ada (Southern Oklahoma). After the most active tornado season Oklahoma had seen in May 2019 (105 tornadoes!) Alana is excited to join WeatherNation to cover weather all across the nation. In addition to the hot temperatures across the Southern and southeastern United States, there is a consistent threat of severe thunderstorms as we head through the week. On Monday, strong thunderstorms moved across the Gulf Coast, dumping some decent totals. This is in the forecast again on Tuesday.<div class="twitter-tweet" style="display: flex; justify-content: center" data-twitt-post-id="2092024161073770640" src="https://x.com/WeatherNation/status/2092024161073770640"></div><h1>TUESDAY</h1>On Tuesday, there is a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe storms along portions of the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, from southern Alabama through southwestern South Carolina. Storms are expected to be more isolated in nature, developing within a moist air mass near the Gulf Coast. The main threat will once again be isolated damaging winds.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/dddfff-1787681734230.png">Storms along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts will favor the afternoon hours through Tuesday, when surface temperatures are at their highest. Keep a close eye from Savannah to Jacksonville, as that is where heavy rain has the highest chance of causing localized flooding.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/PUSHY-1787695549629.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video><h1><img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-25 080947-1787667029965.png">WEDNESDAY</h1>On Wednesday, as the main front starts to push through, portions of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana along the Mississippi River are under a MARGINAL (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe thunderstorms, mostly a damaging wind threat.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-25 035657-1787651832030.png">By Wednesday, we're watching the next front that is expected to push through the region. This could bring a more widespread chance for thunderstorms across the Deep South, as shown in our in-house forecast model.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/2026-08-25 03-57-50-1787651894960.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Locally heavy downpours are possible, which could overwhelm some saturated soils. High pressure has returned to the Southwest. Extreme Heat Warnings (in pink) have been issued for cities including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Tucson, and Yuma. Heat Advisories (in orange) have been issued across the Inland Empire of California.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-25 035319-1787651614644.png">We started the week with plenty of triple digits across the Southwest, even Los Angeles is getting close to the century mark by midweek.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-25 035343-1787651635736.png">Los Angeles in particular is of interest because it has been nearly 2 years since we have hit the century mark. Extreme Heat Returns to Los Angeles and the Southwest

Record heat rolls on across the Lone Star State. Several cities saw record highs over 100 degrees on Saturday and once again on Sunday. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-03-29 061107-1787577476042.png">On Sunday, a record high temperature was set in Melbourne, Florida.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-23 190845-1787533729856.png">The intense heat is likely to continue for the next few days with more potential records. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-03-29 062205-1787577486559.png">Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings remain across the Southern U.S. <img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2026/08/Screenshot 2026-08-23 184828-1787533766535.png">Feels-like temperatures remain dangerously hot. Stifling Heat Holds Steady for Southern U.S.

Rob grew up in South Florida, where daily afternoon storms and hurricanes piqued his interest in meteorology early on. That interest was fostered by his teachers and his father, who one time brought him onto the roof of their home to watch a funnel cloud move through the Everglades several miles away. Years of filmmaking and tv production in high school gradually pushed him toward broadcast meteorology at Florida State University, where he joined and eventually led the student run daily weather show. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology, he began his career at KESQ in Palm Springs, California before heading to KFSN in Fresno and WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina. He has covered a diverse array of extreme weather events, including haboobs and flash flooding in the desert, extreme snow in the Sierra, hurricanes, and Appalachian ice storms. He also enjoys telling stories and reporting about weather issues.

A cold front will sweep across the Mid-Atlantic Sunday morning producing a severe weather threat. This risk will be very isolated and focused in the Carolinas.<img src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/01/pic2-1706406148765.png">The cold front should be out of the region by the early afternoon of Sunday.<video src="https://media.weathernationtv.com/app/uploads/2024/01/FORECAST-1706406229136.mp4" controls="true" width="100%"></video>Much colder air behind the front will take over the region, and we will drop back into the average temperatures for January. Lows will drop back into the 30s for inland locations and 40s for the coast and Florida.
